A SERVICE OF COMMITTAL: ANDREW ROTH
June 12, 2005
In the midst of life, we are in sorrow over death. From whom can
we seek help?
Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth.
Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans:
For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this
mortal body must put on immortality. Then the saying that is written will be
fulfilled: "Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death is your
victory? Where, O death, is your sting? But thanks be to God who gives us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Let us pray:
O God, you have created this wonderful world and you know all
things. Give us such faith that by day and by night, at all times and in all
places, we may without fear commit ourselves and those dear to us to your
never-failing love, in this life and in the life to come.
Gracious God, we thank you for all those we love but see no
more. Receive into your arms now Andrew, and care for him as you care for all
your children. Into your hands we commend his spirit. AMEN
This body we commit to the ground--earth to earth, dust to dust.
Let us pray together the Lord's Prayer. Our Father, who art in
heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it
is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as
we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory
forever. AMEN
Almighty God, continue to look with pity on our sorrow. Amid
things we do not understand, help us to trust in your care and love. Now bless
us, and keep us, and make your face to shine upon us, and give us your peace,
now and forevermore. AMEN
